I became interested in medicine after studying tropical forest in college and realizing that I wanted more contact with people than trees. In medical school, I cared for children and adults with sickle cell disease and was inspired by the challenges and complexity of this chronic illness. I chose to train in both pediatric and adult hematology and now see both children and adults with non-malignant blood disorders. I joined Duke Health in July 2016 to direct the Adult Sickle Cell Program and focus on the care of children and adults with disorders of hemoglobin. Dr. Strouse is rated as an Experienced provider by MediFind in the treatment of Infantile Neutropenia. His top areas of expertise are Sickle Cell Disease, Hemoglobinopathy, Congenital Hemolytic Anemia, Bone Marrow Aspiration, and Bone Marrow Transplant.

I’m a pediatric infectious diseases specialist. The patients that I see are primarily very immune compromised children, so premature infants with severe infection, children with HIV, and children who had a stem cell transplant or chemotherapy and are at high risk for infection. My clinical care focuses on providing ideal therapy and ideal dosing to help prevent severe neurologic injury after infections in premature infants. With premature infants, they can’t tell you their symptoms and there’s no one perfect answer with dosage, so the medicine is really as much art as it is facts. And that’s really my favorite part of my job – figuring out the right dose for that patient and using that knowledge to help the next patient who comes into the unit. Outside of work, I participate in Olympic weightlifting, CrossFit, and baseball with my wife and four children. Dr. Benjamin is rated as an Experienced provider by MediFind in the treatment of Infantile Neutropenia. His top areas of expertise are Premature Infant, Neonatal Herpes, Neonatal Sepsis, and Bronchopulmonary Dysplasia.

I’m a pediatric blood and bone marrow transplant specialist. I see patients from all over the world, many of whom have very rare diseases. I take care of patients with leukodystrophies, leukemias and other blood disorders that are resistant to standard treatment, and children with brain injuries like cerebral palsy. It’s rewarding to make a difference when treating challenging diseases. I’ve been fortunate over my career to be able to develop new treatments in the laboratory that I take into the clinic to help patients. In fact, here at Duke I was involved in the first cord-blood transplant anywhere in the world. When meeting with patients, I focus on making their experience more than just the medicine. We have a family support program for things beyond medical needs, which is especially helpful for families that are far from home. Outside of work, I like to knit, bike and spend time with my family. Dr. Kurtzberg is rated as an Experienced provider by MediFind in the treatment of Infantile Neutropenia. Her top areas of expertise are Metachromatic Leukodystrophy, Graft Versus Host Disease (GvHD), Leukodystrophy, Congenital Athymia, and Bone Marrow Transplant.

I attended medical school in India, where, as a resident, I was first drawn to pediatrics because of the resilience I witnessed in sick children and the amazing way they bounced back after serious illness. I furthered my medical training in Britain, Canada and here in the United States. I have been a pediatric kidney specialist since 1995, and I have been at Duke since 2009. As a pediatric nephrologist, I care for children with high blood pressure, acute kidney damage, chronic kidney failure, genetic kidney disease and inflammation of the kidneys, as well as for children who need kidney transplants. The advances made in pediatric nephrology over the past 30 years have made it possible for infants and children who suffer from kidney disease to live long, healthy lives, where before there was very little hope. It is extremely rewarding to participate in these advances and to care for these patients and their families. Dr. Nagaraj is rated as an Experienced provider by MediFind in the treatment of Infantile Neutropenia. His top areas of expertise are Nephrotic Syndrome, Hyaline Fibromatosis Syndrome, Chronic Kidney Disease, Posterior Urethral Valves, and Kidney Transplant.

I entered medicine to improve the welfare of patients by better elucidating the scientific basis of disease. Caring for patients at the bedside and witnessing first-hand their unmet medical needs directly influences the type of work I do in the laboratory. I strive to help my patients and families understand why, and not just what, medical decisions are being made and help them to be engaged with their care. I am a pediatric nephrologist and work with children with kidney disease. Some of the conditions that we see include congenital malformations of the kidney and the bladder, nephrotic syndrome, glomerulonephritis (inflammation of the kidney filters), and children who are on dialysis or who received kidney transplantation because of kidney failure. I listen carefully to parents when they bring their children to the clinic because they know their children better than any other person, and they are the best advocates for their child. What is the definition of Infantile Neutropenia?

Neutropenia is an abnormally low number of white blood cells. These cells are called neutrophils. They help the body fight infection. This article discusses neutropenia in newborns. Neutropenia can occur at any age.

When should I see an Infantile Neutropenia doctor near Chapel Hill, NC?

There are various reasons why you may want to see a specialist, such as:

    • Your primary care provider recommends it.
    • Your condition requires expert knowledge and specialized care.
    • Your symptoms persist or worsen despite treatment.
    • You need specialized testing or procedures.
    • You want a second opinion.

What should I consider when choosing an Infantile Neutropenia doctor near Chapel Hill, NC?

It’s important to see a provider with expertise in your specific condition. Each provider profile in MediFind’s doctor database includes information on which conditions they treat, years of experience, research contributions, languages spoken, insurance plans accepted, and more.

How does MediFind rank Infantile Neutropenia doctors near Chapel Hill, NC?

MediFind’s rankings are based on a variety of data sources, such as the number of articles a doctor has published in medical journals, participation in clinical trials and industry conferences, as well as the number of patients that provider sees for a given condition. Note that MediFind’s provider database is not based on user reviews, and providers do not pay to be included in the database.

What types of insurance are accepted by Infantile Neutropenia doctors near Chapel Hill, NC?

Most profiles in MediFind’s doctor database include a list of insurance plans accepted by that provider. However, it’s a good idea to contact the provider’s office to make sure they still accept your insurance, then doublecheck by contacting your insurance plan to confirm they’re in network.

How can I book an appointment online with an Infantile Neutropenia doctor near Chapel Hill, NC?

MediFind offers direct scheduling for certain providers using the “Request Appointment” button on that provider’s profile. If the schedule option is not available for a provider, tap the red “Show Phone Number” button on their profile to get their contact information. If you prefer to find providers who offer online scheduling, select “Schedules online” under the “Availability” category of the filter feature on the left side of the Infantile Neutropenia doctor search results page.

Why is it important to get a second opinion from a different Infantile Neutropenia doctor?

Second opinions are an opportunity to confirm a diagnosis and its root cause, learn about alternative treatment options, or simply gain peace of mind. Many people, especially those with serious diagnoses, get second opinions so they can understand all their options and make informed decisions, so don’t hesitate to get one if you have any doubts or need more information or clarification regarding your care. Note that some insurance plans require second opinions, while others don’t cover second opinions, so be sure to confirm with your insurance provider first.

How can I prepare for my appointment with an Infantile Neutropenia doctor near Chapel Hill, NC?

Prepare for your appointment by gathering the following items:

    • Copies of medical records (dating back at least one year)
    • Your medical history, including illnesses, medical conditions, surgeries, and other doctors you see
    • Family history of disease
    • List of current prescription drugs, over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal remedies or supplements including names and doses
    • Allergies to medications, food, latex, insects, etc.
    • List of questions and concerns
    • Your insurance card

You might also contact the provider’s office to see if they offer transportation or childcare services or if you’re allowed to bring a loved one for support or to take notes during your visit.

What questions should I ask my Infantile Neutropenia doctor?

    Here are some sample questions:

    • Can you explain in simple terms what this condition is and how it’s treated?
    • What symptoms or side effects should I watch for?
    • What tests will be involved, and when can I expect results?
    • Are there other specialists I need to see?
    • What’s the best way to reach you if I have follow-up questions?

How can I learn about the latest clinical trials and research advances my Infantile Neutropenia doctor may know about?

MediFind’s Clinical Trials tool asks you a series of questions to help you narrow down your search by health condition, age, gender, location, how far you’re willing to travel, and more. Each question you answer filters down the number of trials until you find the ones that are most relevant to you.

MediFind’s Latest Advances tool features summaries of recent articles published in medical journals. We use cutting-edge technology to scour medical publication databases for the latest research advancements on any given condition, then we simplify this information in a way that’s useful and easy to understand.

Can I filter my search to show male or female Infantile Neutropenia doctors near Chapel Hill, NC?

Look for the filter feature on the left side of the Infantile Neutropenia doctor search results page. Select “Female” or “Male” under the “Gender” category to search for female or male providers exclusively. If the “Any” option is selected, it will pull results for both male and female providers.

Can I filter my search to find an Infantile Neutropenia doctor that offers video calls?

Look for the filter feature on the left-side of the Infantile Neutropenia doctor search results page. Select “Offers telehealth visits” under the Availability category to search for providers who offer virtual appointments (video calls).
